Categories: Dining, Just for Kids, Horseback Trail Rides, Old West Dinner Cookout

Location: Tower and Roosevelt Areas

Season: Summer

Duration: 3-4 hours

Yellowstone’s main park roads form a "figure eight," with spurs heading out from the "eight" to the five park entrances. For reference purposes, the “eight” is divided into an upper and lower loop.

From Mammoth Hot Springs, drive 18 miles/29 kilometers southeast along the main park road (upper side-upper loop) to Roosevelt Lodge and Tower Junction.

From the Canyon area, drive north 19 miles/31 kilometers along the main park road (eastern side-upper loop) to Tower and Roosevelt Lodge. This road crosses the scenic Dunraven Pass.

There once was a fella named, John Yancy. He owned a small place on a dirt road where you could rent a room for the night. He called it "Yancy's Pleasant Valley Hotel." While Yancy and his hotel are long gone, the location is now home to a modern day classic, Roosevelt Lodge's Old West Dinner Cookout!

Season: Summer,  Duration: 3-4 hours,  Location: Tower and Roosevelt Areas

Grab the saddles and hitch up the wagon for an evening you won't soon forget. You can ride out to Yancy's Hole on a horse or in a covered wagon. When you arrive you'll find those cooks dishin' up some real cowboy grub at our popular Old West Dinner Cookout. The coffee's brewin' over the open campfire, and our wranglers love talkin' your ears off over a strong "cup o' Joe!" When we ring the "dinner bell", you'll line up for real western beef steaks cooked to order, our signature Roosevelt Baked Beans, potato salad, coleslaw, cornbread muffins, and fruit crisp. And if all this is not enough, you'll find your boots tappin' to old western songs sung by our singin' cowboy. You may have come here as a city slicker, but you'll go back as a regular cowpoke!

Directions

Check in at the Roosevelt Corrals where you will get on your wagon or horse and head to Pleasant Valley. Once at the cookout site all guests are seated together at open-air picnic tables and dinner is served buffet-style under a protective canvas roof. There is entertainment at the cookout; usually a cowboy singer.
