Mammoth Hotel-

Yellowstone's main park roads form a "figure eight," with spurs heading out from the "eight" to the five park entrances. For reference purposes, the "eight" is divided into an upper and lower loop.

Mammoth Hot Springs lies in the extreme northwest corner of Yellowstone Park.

From Gardiner, MT, drive south 5 miles on the north entrance spur road to Mammoth Hot Springs Village.

From Norris Junction, drive north 21 Miles/34 kilometers along the main park road (west side-lower loop) to Mammoth Hot Springs Village.

From Tower Junction, drive northwest 18 miles/ 29 kilometers along the main park road (upper side-upper loop) to Mammoth Village.


 

Canyon Lodge-

Yellowstone's main park roads form a "figure eight," with spurs heading out from the "eight" to the five park entrances. For reference purposes, the "eight" is divided into an upper and lower loop. The Grand Canyon and Canyon Village are located near the eastern-most intersection of the Upper and Lower Loop roads that form the "eight".  There is not a designated road number in the park.  

From Mammoth Hot Springs head south 22 miles/35 kilometers on the main park road (upper loop) to Norris Junction, then east 11 miles/18 kilometers to Canyon Village. OR, head east 18 miles/29 kilometers on the main park road (upper loop) to Tower Junction, then south 19 miles/30 kilometers to Canyon Village. This is a scenic route over Dunraven Pass.

If the wildlife is around, the combination of early evening hours and a Historic Yellow Bus creates a perfect opportunity for wildlife watching. If it isn't, a summer evening ride with the top down and a guide who knows the significance and history of the Northern Range is an experience in itself.
