Barronette Trail

Directions:

Yellowstone’s main park roads form a “figure eight,” with spurs heading out from the “eight” to the five park entrances. For reference purposes, the “eight” is divided into an upper and lower loop.

From Mammoth Village, drive 18 miles east to the Tower/Roosevelt junction, turn left and go through Lamar Valley to the Barronette trailhead. The trailhead and parking lot are on the left/north side of the road.

The Barronette Ski trail is a 3.5 mile section of the old Cooke City road in the northeast region of Yellowstone National Park.  The trail offers some spectacular mountain scenery and consistent snow conditions.

Description

The trailhead is located near the upper and lower Soda Butte bridges on the Northeast Road. The trail lies mostly in conifer forests beneath Barronette Peak. The trail offers some spectacular mountain scenery and consistent snow conditions. Wildlife are present year-round in this area of Yellowstone.  During winter months, elk, bison and wolves frequent this area of the park.

Ski Rentals

Ski rentals, lessons, packages, and repairs are available at Bear Den Ski Shops at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Old Faithful Snow Lodge. Check with these ski shops for daily shuttle schedules to and from the ski trails.
