Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins: Winter things to do...Getting into Yellowstone National Park in the winter is an adventure in itself. The road from the north entrance, through Mammoth Hot Springs and on to the northeast entrance and Cooke City, MT is open to automobiles in the winter. Accessing the rest of the park's interior requires over-snow vehicles. Xanterra provides snowcoach transportation and snowmobile rentals at Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful. Xanterra also provides snowcoach service from the west entrance at West Yellowstone and the south entrance at Flagg Ranch. For additional information on other services and transportation available in gateway communities serving Yellowstone's entrances, please contact the National Park Service. Xanterra offers regularly scheduled snowcoach transportation from Mammoth Hot Springs (north entrance), West Yellowstone (west entrance) and Flagg Ranch (south entrance.) The schedules and fares are as follows. All snowcoach trips involve interpretation from our seasoned driver-guides and allow for ample wildlife viewing en route. Advance reservations for snowcoach service can be made by calling our central reservations department toll-free at 866-GEYSERLAND (866-439-7375). While staying in park hotels provide the best opportunity for the fullest Yellowstone winter experience, you are not required to stay in park lodging to use our snowcoaches.

Ice SkatingAn ice skating rink is open depending on weather. No reservations are taken. Skate rentals are free. Ask at the front desk. Ski and snowshoe equipment rentals are available at the Bear Den Ski Shop upon arrival. Snowcoach ToursSeveral snowcoach tours are available from Old Faithful. All must be reserved in advance through the reservation office. Round trip snowcoach transportation is also offered daily from Old Faithful to Flagg Ranch and to West Yellowstone. Snowcoach passengers must report to the Xanterra Parks & Resorts Activity Desk at least 45 minutes prior to departure for ticketing and loading. Each guest entering the park by snowcoach is restricted to two pieces of luggage plus cross-country ski equipment. Hard-sided luggage is advised. Sightseeing stops necessitate warm footwear and clothing on our heated snowcoaches. Reserve well in advance of your arrival. Snowcoach charters also available. Other Interpretive ToursWinter Photo Safari - Cold temperatures and thermal activity combine to create fantastic winter images! Our professional guide will be there to help with any questions about the park or the camera. Since this tour's focus is photography, time will spent at the best locations for capturing winter images. Coffee and tea are provided. Those wanting more of a field meal should consider ordering box lunches from our restaurant the night prior to the tour. Firehole Basin Adventure-Spend a few hours in the valley of the Firehole River. Our guides will entertain you and reveal a whole new world to you. Guided ski tours are available and must be reserved in advance. A minimum of 4 people is required. Ski tours are geared to the lower intermediate skier who has basic experience in snowplowing, turning and uphill technique. Skiing & SnowshoeingGuided Snowshoe Tour Snowshoeing is easy to learn and fun. tour destination will vary based on snow conditions and participant's ability. There are many ski trails in the Old Faithful area. Daily ski shuttle service is available. No advance reservations taken. Guests should inquire at check-in for schedules. Ski-Daddle to De Lacey Creek or Fairy Falls Head out for a great afternoon of ski touring. an afternoon snack and hot drink are included too. fairy Falls is rated as an easy ski. De Lacey Creek is rated easy to Ski Lessons Whether you are Nordic skiing for the first time or brushing up on your skills, group or private lessons are available. Ski lessons are offered through the Bear Den Ski Shop. Ski and snowshoe equipment rentals are available at the Bear Den Ski Shop upon arrival. Guided snowmobile rentals and tours will be available at Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful Snow Lodge during the 2009/10 winter season. Snowcoach SchedulesIn Winter, only over-snow vehicles can travel the park’s interior. While the road from Gardiner to Mammoth and on to Cooke City through Lamar Valley is open to wheeled vehicles, all other winter roads are limited to snowcoaches or guided snowmobile tours.
