Winter Things to Do at Old Faithful Snow Lodge

When visiting Old Faithful Snow Lodge in the winter, we suggest you enjoy the following activities:

Snowcoach Transportation

Round-tip snowcoach transportation is available daily from Old Faithful Snow Lodge and can be reserved through the reservation office. Guests traveling for overnight stays are restricted to two pieces of luggage plus cross-country ski equipment. Hard-sided luggage is advised. While the snowcoaches are heated, sightseeing stops, where passengers leave the coach, necessitate warm footwear and warm layered clothing.

Snowcoach Express Runs between West Yellowstone and Old Faithful Snow Lodge

Express runs are offered daily between Old Faithful Snow Lodge and the West Entrance. The pick-up/drop-off point is the Gray Wolf Inn located at 250 S. Canyon Street.   Phone: 406-646-0000. Passengers taking the 6:30 a.m. express coach from Old Faithful will depart before breakfast is available, therefore those passengers should order a box breakfast the night before departure. Complementary coffee will be available in the lobby at 6:00 a.m. The express runs offer one restroom stop at Madison Junction.

Guided Snowmobile Tours

Snowmobile rentals are available for guided touring only. To reserve a snowmobile call our reservations office toll free at 866-439-7375. Guided snowmobile rentals and tours will be available at Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful Snow Lodge during the 2011/12 winter season. Children must be 8 years old in order to participate on snowmobile activities. Children 8-11 ride for free. You must have a valid drivers license in your possession to operate a snowmobile. Under National Park Service regulations, learner permits do not qualify as valid driver licenses.

Skiing & Snowshoeing

There are many ski trails in the Old Faithful area.

Daily skier shuttle service is available to the Divide or Fairy Falls trails (first ticket purchased foreach run determines destination.) Guests should inquire at the Front Desk for schedules.

Guided ski tours are available and must be reserved in advance. Ski tours include:

  • The full-day Grand Canyon Guided Ski Tour (requires a minimum of 3 people) and is geared to the lower intermediate skier who has basic experience in snowplowing, turning, and uphill technique. For information and reservations please call toll-free 866-GEYSERLAND (866-439-7375) or 307-344-7311

Ski and snowshoe equipment rentals are available at the Bear Den Ski Shop.  The Bear Den Ski Shop is a one stop winter adventure center offering:

  • Custom guided ski tours

  • Some clothing and sundries

Ice Skating

An ice skating rink is open depending on weather. No reservations taken. Skate rentals are free and available through the Front Desk.
