Pebble Creek Trail

Directions:

Yellowstone’s main park roads form a “figure eight,” with spurs heading out from the “eight” to the five park entrances. For reference purposes, the “eight” is divided into an upper and lower loop.

From Mammoth Village, drive 18 miles east to the Tower/Roosevelt junction, turn left and go through Lamar Valley to the parking lot for the Pebble Creek Campground. The trailhead and parking lot are on the left/north side of the road.

The Pebble Creek Trail is 13 miles and most difficult.  Unless you are a very strong skier this should be planned as an overnight.

Description

This is a backcountry trail that is usually through unbroken snow.  Although skied as a day trip in the late winter and early spring by experienced parties it normally requires a night out to complete.  Check at a ranger station for current conditions

Ski rentals, lessons, packages, and repairs are available at Bear Den Ski Shops at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Old Faithful Snow Lodge. Check with these ski shops for daily shuttle schedules to and from the ski trails.
