YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, September 2, 2015 – Lake Yellowstone Hotel’s 153 rooms have been supremely busy welcoming guests throughout the summer, but with the beginning of school and the end of the traditional summer vacation season, there are rooms available in the elegant, sought-after hotel now until it closes Oct. 4.
And that’s particularly good news for travelers seeking a last-minute getaway to the world’s first national park. Viewed as a prime time to visit by many in-the-know park fans, fall is the season when the park’s wildlife becomes active and often easy to see, and it is also generally a time when most visitors adopt a more relaxed, slower-paced trip itinerary.
One of the oldest national park hotels in the country, Lake Yellowstone Hotel turns 125 next year, the same year the National Park Service celebrates its centennial. It is also one of the most elegant hotels, with its Colonial Revival architecture features along with its positioning on the shore of Yellowstone Lake.
The hotel completed a $28 million renovation last year. A member of Historic Hotels of America and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Lake Yellowstone Hotel opened in 1891 after two years of construction at a cost of $46,000. When the project started in 1889, Yellowstone was the country’s only national park and the National Park Service would not be created for another 27 years.
