Imagine how great it would be to experience an entire year in Yellowstone National Park. While we hire more than 3,500 team members to support our seasonal operations, there are only a couple hundred people who work year-round in Yellowstone. These positions are a rare opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the world’s first national park.
The majority of our year-round positions are located near the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park in the communities of Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming or Gardiner, Montana. Both communities are small (less than 1,000 people year-round). Gardiner has a variety of services available like a grocery store, hotels, restaurants, a multi-grade school, a small library, churches, an auto-shop, and a year-round clinic (located in Mammoth). Further services can be found in the nearby communities of Livingston and Bozeman, Montana. In addition, you’ll find the community is full of welcoming people who love the outdoors. Working a year-round job gives you the opportunity to experience Yellowstone as few others do. From mid-May to October, you’ll have the opportunity to explore Yellowstone by hiking, fishing, backpacking, camping, wildlife watching and more. Then from November-April, when most of the visitors have left, you’ll have the park to yourself and can experience a more intimate, slower paced Yellowstone. Most year-round employees will tell you winter is their favorite time of the year. While it’s not for everyone (it does get a little cold, dark, and snowy), it does offer amazing opportunities for wildlife watching, skiing, snowshoeing, geyser gazing, and more.

At Xanterra, our goal is to inspire you to reach your highest potential and be the best version of you. This starts with taking care of your overall health. Xanterra offers you and your family two comprehensive medical plans: Preferred Provider Option (PPO) Plan and High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with Health Savings Account (HSA). Both use the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Network of doctors and facilities. Preventive care is covered at 100% on both plans. Xanterra makes a biweekly contribution to the HSA of all employees who choose the High Deductible Health Plan.
Enhance your smile with dental coverage through the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Preferred Dental Plan. Maintain a healthy smile through regular preventive dental care while also having access to basic, restorative services, and major services.
Take care of your eyesight with vision coverage through the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Vision Plan. The vision plan includes benefits for eye exams, eyeglasses, and contact lenses. Visiting a doctor within the Anthem PPO network allows you to take advantage of higher benefits coverage.
Our Basic Life/AD&D Insurance is 100% paid for by Xanterra and provides coverage in the amount of 1.5 times your base salary up to $100,000 for salaried employees. Hourly employees have a flat amount of $15,000 per insurance. Salaried employees can also purchase additional life insurance at group rates.
Our Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage protects you and your family financially in the event of a short-term injury or illness. Employees are provided STD coverage at no cost. The STD plan provides 60% of your weekly base earnings for the first 13 weeks of a disability.
Our Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage for salaried employees replaces 66.67% of your base earnings if you are disabled for more than 90 days and are unable to work. LTD benefits are paid for by employees for the first six months of coverage. After six months, the benefit is 100% paid for by Xanterra.
Our EAP offers employees and their household members free and confidential resources 24/7 to help balance work and life.
Our 401(k) plan is administered by Wells Fargo. Employees are eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan after 12 months and 1,000 hours of service. We will match 100% of the first 3% of eligible compensation that you contribute to the plan each payroll period and 50% of the next 2% you contribute.
We provide the following paid time off benefits: Vacation, Sick leave, Holidays, Bereavement leave, and Jury duty leave.
Employees receive a wide variety of free and discounted activities both in Yellowstone National Park itself and in the surrounding gateway communities.
Employees are also eligible for discounts at any other Xanterra Travel Collection property.
Education Assistance Program: We support further education to better yourself as a person and improve your skills as a Xanterra employee. Reimbursable costs for completed courses are 80% of actual costs (tuition and fees) up to a maximum of $500 per year.
Housing Resources-While some year-round positions do include housing, a number of positions do not. Housing options in the area can be limited and can be found in the communities of Gardiner, Emigrant, and Livingston Montana. The best resources to find housing are the Gardiner Newsletter, Mammoth/Gardiner Community Message Board, or Craigslist.
