Summer 2021 Reservations - What You Need to Know

With the unprecedented challenges and impacts of COVID-19, we at Yellowstone National Park Lodges are taking appropriate precautions to protect our employees while positioning ourselves for the time when we’ll be able to welcome guests back to clean and safe facilities and services.

With this in mind, we’ve had to make some changes in how we manage the process of booking 2021 reservations.

We will be opening up 2021 room availability on June 1 at 2:00 a.m. Mountain time, but it will be available only through our online reservations system. We will not be able to accept calls for 2021 reservations beginning on June 1 (and lasting for approximately one week). Only calls regarding 2020 reservations will be accepted in the call center.  We realize this will result in excessive traffic to the website, and there will be times when the site reaches capacity.

We anticipate high volumes of calls and long hold times in the call center as well. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Our goal is to be processing 2021 reservations in the call center by June 8, 2020, if not sooner. (We’ll post updates on this timing on this webpage when known.)

Additional Info and Tips for Booking Summer 2021 Reservations

Waiting a couple days to book your reservation most likely won’t impact your ability to find lodging or campsites in the park. The majority of the reservations are made later. Certainly, some dates and/or room types are in especially high demand, but there are over 2,300 rooms, and 1,400 campsites available each night once all facilities are open for the season.

Staying in the park, regardless of where, is great. Old Faithful Geyser and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone will be just as magnificent whether or not you’re staying in those area accommodations.

The online reservations system cannot be used to book commercial groups or more than 5 rooms per reservation/party. We will cancel reservations that do not comply. Group reservations (commercial and private groups) must be requested through our group reservations sales department (307-344-5282 or grps-ynp@xanterra.com)

If you experience either of the following when calling or booking online, it means that systems have reached capacity and you should try again at a later time:

  • An online error message that reads, “Service is Unavailable”.
  • Rapid busy signal when calling. This means the phone lines serving our park operations are at capacity and your call is not reaching our reservations phone system.

If you are booking on June 1 or 2, the following will be in effect:

  • Callers for 2020 reservations will be limited to one reservation per call.
  • All reservations (2020 and 2021) must be booked in the name of the guest(s) that will be onsite and registering for that room(s) upon arrival.
  • Limit 5 rooms per individual reservation.
  • Maximum stay of 7 days per reservation.
  • Online request forms for 2020 and 2021 tours and dinner reservations will be unavailable during this time so that we can devote our staff to answering calls for 2020 reservations. These services will need to be reserved at a later time when the online forms are again available.
  • For Lodging and Camping reservations, a 30-day notice is required to receive a full refund of your deposit amount. A $25 non-refundable fee will be charged for any changes or cancellations that occur less than 30 days prior to arrival or during your stay. For cancellations within 7 days of your summer arrival, full deposit will be retained.
  • For Getaway Packages, a 30-day notice is required to receive a full refund of your deposit amount. Cancellations that occur within 30 to 14 days of arrival will receive full refund of the deposit amount less a $25 non-refundable reservations fee. Cancellations that occur within 14 days of arrival will result in full forfeiture of the deposit amount.
  • For Adventure and Lodging & Learning Packages, 60-day notice is required to receive full refund of your deposit amount. Cancellations made between 30-60 days will result in 50% forfeiture of package cost. Cancellations made within 30 days of arrival result in 100% forfeiture of package cost.

A deposit of the first night’s rate (room cost plus tax) at each location is required at time of reservation. Advance deposits are payable by check, money order, or major credit card. We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express, Carte Blanche, JCB and Diners Club.
