YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, April 17, 2015 –With the roads being cleared, the bears emerging from hibernation and lodges, restaurants, gift stores and activities opening, Yellowstone National Park will soon completely open for the season.

“Spring is always a great time to visit due to the opportunity to see newborn wildlife and lodging availability,” said Jim McCaleb, general manager of Yellowstone National Park Lodges. “Adding to the appeal of a park visit this year is the just-announced designation of Lake Yellowstone Hotel as a National Historic Landmark.”

A member of Historic Hotels of America, the Lake Yellowstone Hotel opens for the season May 15. The hotel, which completed a $28 million renovation last summer, features Colonial Revival architecture. Lake Hotel is the oldest in the park with construction originally started in 1889 before a second national park even existed. The hotel opened in 1891, and famed architect Robert Reamer oversaw changes to the property in the early 1900s.

Facilities in the park start opening April 17 with the Old Faithful Snow Lodge’s Geyser Grill and Bear Den Gift Store. The Terrace Grill at Mammoth Hot Springs will open April 24. The bulk of the Snow Lodge’s operations – rooms, cabins, restaurant and gift shop – open May 1. May 1 is also opening day for the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel’s lodging, restaurant and gift shop.

Campgrounds open in May as well with Madison opening May 1, Norris May 15, Bridge Bay and Tower May 22 and Canyon May 29. Mammoth Campground is open year round. Fishing Bridge RV Park opens May 8. More campground information can be found at www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm.

Visitor services open in stages to coincide with increasing demand as spring gives way to summer. On June 10 Lake Lodge will be the final facility to open for the summer.

Like the lodging, park entrances and roads open on a staggered schedule. Most roads are open by Memorial Weekend, with the exception of the road between West Thumb Junction and Old Faithful, which opens on June 11 due to delays caused by the Isa Lake Bridge replacement project. A complete schedule of roads reopening is available at www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/parkroads.htm.

Opening dates for lodges and campgrounds operated by concessioner Yellowstone National Park Lodges are available at www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com/lodging/opening-and-closing-dates/.
Canyon Lodge & Cabins will open in two stages this year as the complex is undergoing a $70 million redevelopment. The existing Dunraven and Cascade Lodges along with 100 Western cabins will open May 29. Construction crews are completing the first three of five new multi-story lodges that will eventually feature more than 400 rooms and replace a like number of Frontier cabins. The first three lodges are scheduled to open in August this year, and the remaining two are set to open in August of 2016.
