Message Regarding Government Shutdown

Updated on January 19, 2018, at 10:05 p.m. Mountain Time

Xanterra Parks & Resorts has received word from the U.S. National Park Service that the gates and roads into the national parks operated by Xanterra will remain accessible during the government shutdown.  This means that Xanterra’s lodges, restaurants, retail, concessions and services will be open for business as usual and welcoming guests and visitors from around the world.

This includes Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Crater Lake, Mt. Rushmore, Zion, the Oasis at Death Valley and Grand Canyon Railway (which runs from Williams, AZ to the South Rim of Grand Canyon).

Operations at Yellowstone During the Government Shutdown (NPS)

Government-run operations and facilities will be closed as soon as Saturday morning, January 20. Visitors will be able to access the road from Gardiner to the Northeast Entrance and all the commercial services along that route. Visitors will also be able to access commercial services in the interior of the park (e.g. at Old Faithful) only as long as concessioners provide funds for road grooming. All park regulations, including those regarding oversnow travel, still apply. Guided snowmobile trips with commercial operators will be allowed, however, non-commercially guided snowmobile trips will not be allowed during the shutdown. If conditions become unsafe at any time, roads and/or developed areas in the park will be closed. The park will provide limited emergency response.

Yellowstone National Park Lodges/Xanterra Will Be Operating As Usual

The following represents Yellowstone National Park Lodges’ current plans during the government shutdown:

-In-park lodging will remain open as scheduled (Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel).

-Our in-park restaurants and gift shops will be open as regularly scheduled.

-Our regular transportation services between Mammoth and Old Faithful will remain operating as usual, and per regular schedules.

-Our interpretive tours and activities will continue to operate as scheduled.  However, some tours/activities may be modified or canceled based on road and weather conditions.
