Types of Yellowstone Jobs
As the primary authorized concessioner in Yellowstone, Xanterra Travel Collection® operates the lodging, camping, and activities in the park as well as managing and maintaining the in-park facilities we are responsible for. In a typical year, that means we hire a workforce of nearly 4,000 employees. Providing hospitality in the word’s first national park takes much more than the front line workers guests typically encounter during a stay. Many are unaware of all the different positions that we hire. We wanted to put a spotlight on the variety of jobs that are available with Yellowstone National Park Lodges.
Below is only a sampling of the job titles; in total, there are more than 400 job titles hired each year! Each job plays a role in providing guests and employees with A World of Unforgettable Experiences®.
A is for Audit Clerk
Assists the Controller and Assistant Controller in all aspects of location accounting responsibilities.
B is for Bell Porter
Provides several services, including the transportation of luggage to and from rooms, providing information about the location, and providing shuttle service if necessary.
C is for Cook
Responsible for prep, set-up, service, clean up, and restocking of cooks line and appropriate prep areas.

D is for Dorm Custodian
Provides cleaning and upkeep of the public areas in Employee Residences at a specific location.
E is for Engineering
The Engineering department is on the front end of a 20-year concessions contract with the National Park Service and plays a vital role in opening, maintaining, and closing facilities in all nine park locations.
F is for Field Teams
Departments like Accounting, Food & Beverage, Human Resources, Sustainability, and Warehouse all have dedicated field staff at our 9 locations throughout the 2.2 million acre park to support their operations.
G is for Guest Service Agent
Provides excellent guest service, registering and greeting guests at point of check-in and throughout their stay, while processing payments and posting charges to guest accounts.

H is for Human Resources
Oversees the daily management of employee dormitories and housing staff.
I is for Information Technology
Provides desktop support, application support, network and security resolution, and phone support to the property’s end-user community.
J is for Journeyman Mechanic
Performs routine maintenance on assigned Company fleet equipment (i.e., snowcoaches, buses, cars, trucks, snowmobiles, and horse-drawn wagons).
K is for Kitchen Crew & Employee Dining Room Crew
Responsible for prep, set-up, service, clean up, and restocking of food service areas.

L is for Laundry Help
Responsible for all phases of laundry operations – receiving, sorting, processing, finishing, shipping, employee check-ins, and custodial work.
M is for Maintenance Staff
Provides skills to park-wide locations to facilitate openings and closings and for repair and maintenance needed to keep location facilities in good working order.

N is for Night jobs
Yellowstone never sleeps and several of our positions include overnight shifts (audit clerk, custodian, guest service agent, maintenance, and more).

O is for Operations
Directs all phases of daily operation at the location level including supporting, monitoring, and controlling all programs instituted by the individual departments.

P is for Part-Time Helping Hands Crew
Works part-time (minimum of 20 hours/week) during the spring and fall to assist the Lodging or Food & Beverage Department during opening and closing.
Q is for Quality control manager (laundry)
Ensures customer and employee satisfaction while utilizing maximum efficiency in staffing, materials, and machines.
R is for Room Attendant
Provides our guests with the best in service, courtesy, and care by cleaning and preparing guest rooms.

S is for Safety and Security
Patrols assigned buildings and grounds to observe and identify potential safety/security risks.
T is for Trainer
Welcomes and provides initial training for all employees in Yellowstone. Help staff learn the ins and outs of Yellowstone, the company, and how to deliver excellent guest service.
U is for Upholsterer
Responsible for completing the miscellaneous repair and refurbishing of furniture, automotive, and marine items.
V is for Vending
Transports snacks and drinks to, and restock, vending machines around Yellowstone National Park.
W is for Warehouse
Responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing all products that the warehouse handles..

Y is for Year-Round
There are about two hundred people who are lucky to call Yellowstone home year-round. The majority are located near the North Entrance in the communities of Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming or Gardiner, Montana.
