Picture Perfect Photo Safari

Morning Tour

From early morning bison and elk whose breath condenses on the cool air, to the sun shining through the vapor clouds above thermal streams, to the rainbow only visible for a few minutes each day, and only from a single vantage point, in the mist of the Lower Falls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park is a paradise for shutterbugs. Your host, a driver-guide who is also a professional photographer, will tailor the tour to the interests, skill levels, and equipment of the group to create a day of memorable photographs for all.

One of our safaris originates from Old Faithful Inn, and takes in thermal areas and wildlife north of Old Faithful Village; the other departs Lake Yellowstone Hotel to visit wildlife-rich Hayden Valley, north shore of Lake Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. For both, the goal of this five-hour tour is intriguing photographic opportunities coupled with (for those who’d like it) instruction on how to better use your camera means a limited number of in-depth stops will be the order of the day. For a fantastic outing for you and your camera, sign up for the Picture Perfect Photo Safari!

Picture Perfect Photo Safari

Aug 21, 2016 by Julie Strater

My husband and I took the morning tour that left from Lake Hotel. Our guide was Rod, and he did a perfect job guiding us on this tour. He knew just where to take us for beautiful sunrise photography, and to find wild animals. He was incredibly knowledgable about the park from the history, to all of the animals. We had a mix of people at all different photography levels and camera equipment, but Rod had photography tips for even the most experienced, to the cell phone level guests. Take this tour at the beginning of your stay, so you'll have the knowledge the guide shares with you about the park for the rest of your visit. I highly recommend this tour.

Our review is based on what we've heard and read about the Photo Safari, not personal experience.
It seems that Xanterra has "booked" our Photo Safara request, but still has not confirmed whether we actually have two seats on the bus.
Oh well, this seems to be the Xanterra way doing things.
We actually thought that we were smart to book our activity in advance.

The Best of Yellowstone!

Jun 18, 2016 by Rick Howe

We did the Photo Safari on our last full day at Yellowstone, with Doug as our driver. He was amazing! He was very patient when teaching all of us how to use our cameras, and he had the eyes of an eagle when he spotted a momma Grizzly (Raspberry) and her cub (Snow) high on a hill about 1/2 mile away. Then he set up his spotting scope and helped all of us record a video of momma and baby bear on our cell phones! Just an amazing guy, and an amazing tour. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
