Midway Geyser Basin is home to Yellowstone’s largest (and the world’s third largest) hot spring, Grand Prismatic Spring, and Excelsior Geyser, which once erupted a standing column of water 300 feet high and 300 feet wide. We’ll take in these features from the boardwalk that winds its way through these and other features, but fairness demands this caveat: unless we visit early in the day, traffic congestion renders it impossible to park at this geyser basin, and if the morning is cool, steam vapor clouds may compromise the views of the features. After Midway Geyser Basin, we’ll then move on down the road to the Fountain Paint Pot area, where all four types of thermal features can be seen on a ½-mile walk (so this is definitely a tour for those who like to walk!). After these two stops, time at a waterfall or two or at another geyser basin will round out our morning before we arrive back at Old Faithful Inn. For a fun start to your day, join us for a Morning at Midway!
Tours will be on a Historic Yellow Bus.
